Revision History

This version incorporates the following changes:

Version 2.5.16

Date 02/12/11

New Features:

Improvements:

Import & Download: Grid Size & Interval simplified, there is no longer a Custom Values button as this is superfluous. Values not in the list can be entered directly in the dropdown boxes.

Bug Fixes:

Import : Problem with reading Grid size & Interval introduced in previous version (while trying to cure the Large Intervals bug introduced in the version previous to that!)

Version 2.5.15

Date 30/11/11

New Features:

MetaData & Publish: Added 2 new entities; Program Name & Program Version. Name will always return "ArcheoSurveyor", Version "2.5.15.1" or whatever is currently applicable.

Improvements:

Bug Fixes:

Support for large intervals added in version 2.5.14 produced a number of problems including failure to display rotated surveys correctly and incorrect selection areas in some processes. The code for this improvement has been removed and replace with a completely different method to achieve the desired result.

Exit Application: Application would not close if any composites were open.

Version 2.5.14

Date 29/11/11

New Features:

Import: New parameter added to Irregular X & XYZ Import process: "Divisor" All X & Y values are divided by this value allowing X & Y values to be converted during import.

For example, X & Y values in centimeters can be divided by 100 to convert to meters or suitable factors can convert U.S. Ft/in to Metric.

GPS Data: The GPS Geoid is now saved with the composite file. For Downloaded data this is taken from the Preferences. The Import Wizard has a new list field to set any Geoid.

Improvements:

Import & Display processes improved to support surveys with large (> 10m) X & Y intervals.

Composite Loading: Improved checking of composites to handle additional error conditions in the header.

Bug Fixes:

Grid Assembly: Attempting to modifiy an existing composite (Modify Grid Assy) resulted in an incorrect warning message followed by a fatal error. This has been corrected.

Help file & Manual updated to reflect these changes.

Version 2.5.13

Date 25/10/11

New Features:

None.

Improvements:

None.

Bug Fixes:

Download / Import / Grid Assembly: Created grids sometimes had leading spaces in the values that resulted in the values being read as zero when assembled into Composites.

Version 2.5.12

Date 29/09/11

New Features:

None.

Improvements:

GPS Interpolation: Interpolated data is now limited to the range of the source + 5% to prevent extreme artifacts distorting the data.

Composite View: Improvements made to speed of opening the composite, Composite will automatically zoom to the size of the window until the zoom level is manually changed.

Bug Fixes:

Publish: After adding simple shapes (rectangles, lines, etc.), it was difficult to stop adding more shapes. Now Selection mode is reactivated after every shape is added.

GPS Processes: Internal layer statistics were not updated after all processes, this could result in 'flat' surveys.

New Features:

Trace View: Added 'Show 1 trace in X' setting. This omits traces to reduce clutter and make the remaining traces visible on large, dense surveys.

Improvements:

None

Bug Fixes:

Trace View: Drew only straight lines after improvements were made to the Shade View in the previous version.

Version 2.5.8

Date 02/02/11

New Features:

Datalogging: A new function to allow ArcheoSurveyor to act as a datalogger has been added. This allows supported instruments to send data direct to ArcheoSurveyor, this data is saved as Composites or Grids. The datalogger provides onscreen readout and map displays of data for both Grid and GPS based datatypes. See the manual for instructions and details of instruments supported (suggestion for new instruments welcome).

Improvements:

Interpolation (GPS Import etc.): The interpolation function now reads the binary output of the external interpolation program, not the ASCII output. This can be more than 100 times faster (one very large test file loaded in 14 sec instead of 30 min).

Interpolation (GPS Import etc.): The external interpolation program's detailed progress can be shown for large (>50,000 point) files. The default is to show it but this can be turned off in Preferences.

GPS Track: Dropdown menu on View Settings changed to allow all options to be set at one time, default also changed to show Current Track not Current Points.

Graduated Shade: Old version generated a graduated shade image for the entire survey however this could be very time consuming for large surveys at high magnifications (>30 secs). This version only generates the graduated shade for the visible area. This is extended each time the survey is scrolled to reveal a different area. The advantage is that the survey is always redrawn in less than 1 sec, the disadvantage is it is always redrawn every time the survey is scrolled (to a previously undrawn area).

Help: Warning given if the help file is missing.

Macros: The Macros function now includes any GPS specific processes that may be applied in the saved macro.

Import: Irregular X & Y (GPS): Added a Regular Expression field for the Dataline as well as the start & end marker lines. This allows the start/end marker to be embedded in a dataline and the data still be extracted.

GSSI Import: Internal record changes to allow for larger grids.

Bug Fixes:

GPSDeSpike: Process moved the filtered results back in the source data causing a 'stagger' effect. Also added handling of track breaks.

GPSHiLo: Process maths improved to handle track breaks, also fixed a bug where Modify would always use the Uniform weighting no matter what was selected.

Grad 601 Download: Problem with downloading single grid fixed.

Installer: Did not install dongle drivers.

Version 2.5.7

Date 06/09/10

New Features:

Publish: Added the ability to save current Object settings as future defaults. This applies to the Background, Survey, Histogram, Compass, Palette/Vertical Scale, Ground Scale & Text objects. To set the new defaults, set up an object as required the press the "Save as Default" button at the bottom of the Properties list.

Improvements:

Save Image:

Changed the size limitation on images to a max of 10,000 pixels in either axis (was 4000).

Changed the Magnification value in the Save Image dialog so that the value is now the full magnification value. Before it was the magnification applied to the current screen mag, so if the screen was at x4 and you set the Save Image mag to x3 you got a final image at x12.

If the possible mag is less than the requested mag, a warning is given telling you the 2 values.

File Management: The Button for this function has been removed from the Nav Bar and the functions moved to the File menu. This makes them accessable even when the NavBar is not used.

Bug Fixes:

Assemble Grids: When a transform was applied to a grid and saved, the new grid name was not saved in the resulting composite.

Import: Bartington Grad 601 import got stuck in a loop when checking the dummy value.

Preferences: List of Available Com ports now correctly reflects the PC's hardware.

Version 2.5.6a (Lite version ONLY)

Date 23/08/10

Improvement:

Registration: Added support for Multi-Line Owner Names.

Version 2.5.6

Date 12/08/10

New Features:

Import: Revised the page sequence in the Wizard. The file to import is now selected before options are set. This allows the wizard to inspect the file and display only applicable options or preset options based on information gleaned from the file.

Import: Geonics file import processes completely rewritten to support all EM31 and EM38 types and modes.

Note: The Geonics file format is extremely flexible, particularly in the use of line labels. In fact, the line label can mean just about anything the user wishes. However there is no means of describing that meaning in the file. The import process therefore only attempts to handle the simplest and most straightforward variations. Warnings are given if more complex labels are found, however it may be that an apparently simple label is actually used in a complex and unsupported manner.

Improvements:

Download: Serial communications components changed (primarily to support Win7), all download modes revised as a result.

Save Image: KML file generation now works for non-GPS based composites.

GPS: Track display can now show the points in the palette colour for that value or a fixed colour (specified in Preferences).

Import: Checking for and handling of different Date & Time formats improved. Only the local time & date format, plus a few common international formats are supported. Other formats will abort the import.

Import: Support for various options in the Bartington download utility format improved.

Bug Fixes:

Publish: Problems with showing the selected or flipped palette fixed.

Version 2.5.0.0

Date 07/07/09

New Features:

GPS import: This is a major new feature set that supports data gathered in a 'random' manner with GPS co-ordinates. It replaces and improves on the old Irregular X&Y import method.

There are 2 main changes to ArcheoSurveyor that enable this:

- The source data is now stored in the composite instead of being directly interpolated to the base layer. Source data can be in UTM (meters) or GPS NMEA (Deg.Min) format.

- A range of processes specific to the needs of GPS data can be applied to the source data prior to it being interpolated to a regular composite. As with normal processes, the GPS processes can be added, modified or deleted at any time.

Main features of GPS Processing:

- The import process uses Regular Expressions to allow almost any form of marker to be recognised in the source data. These markers may be used to indicate the start and/or end of traverses/tracks.

This allows GPS DeStripe, DeSpike or High/Low pass filters to be applied per track in a similar manner to their normal, grid based equivalents.

- A Straighten process corrects source data positions for sudden jumps caused by changing satellite configurations.

- Because GPS data may be gathered at different resolutions in different areas of the same survey, it is inefficient to interpolate all the survey to the highest resolution present in the data. The Detail process allows a selected area of the survey to be extracted to a new, separate composite. The detail is interpolated to a higher level than the main survey. Annotations are automatically added to the main survey to show where the detail was extracted from.

Improvements:

Images: Added JPG as output format. The quality of the image can be set (default is 100% / zero compression).

Images: Added the option of generating World files for all image formats.

Images: Added the ability to generate KML files for images (used to geo-reference images within Google Earth)

Import: Spreadsheet: The process has been re-written to handle 'headers' in the file. Any lines that do not start with numerical data are ignored (designed & tested for Foerster magnetometer data).

Import: Now allows both Rotation and changed Origin Corner (instead of 'or')

Grid Assembly: Grid size is taken from the first Grid used in the assembly, not the first grid in the folder (which may not be used in the assembly).

MetaData: Posn is now shown as a simple Northing/Easting and can have a UTM Zone number.

Save Views: Options layout enlarged & improved.

Histogram: Value labels changed to not use 'scientific' notation.

Clipping: enlarged Edits

Palettes: improved handling, added hint of palette name.

Templates: Changes made to checks for missing templates and creation of default templates if none found.

Bug Fix:

Export: Surfer files did not correctly handle X&Y intervals that were not '1'.

Publish: switching from Publish back to a normal view could cause the layer number to change causing the wrong layer to be displayed.

Images: World File generator did not calculate rotations correctly.

Main View: error when moving mouse into view from right or bottom edge.

Palette Editor: odd errors & inconsistencies corrected.

Vista: Vista found to cause problems with re-sizeable dialog boxes, changed Trace View & Modify to a non-sizable dialog.

Version 2.4.0.23

Date 25/3/09

Bug Fixes:

Save Composite: Saved the top layer instead of the base layer.

Version 2.4.0.22

Publish: Changing the size of a survey on a publish view did not change the size of an associated Ground Scale.

Publish: Sizing error when a Shade Survey with Distance ticks was changed to Trace.

Import: Bartington Grad 601 files: added support for European date  & number formats, last line of file now read.

2DFFT: did not correctly re-read process saved in a composite.

Import: Blank Composite would not change save location path under some circumstances.

Import: Blank Composite failed under some circumstances.

Download: TRCIA download omitted last value of last grid.
